Kayaker's Alliance Kick Off in Monterey

Postby Seek » Mon Apr 29, 2013 4:39 pm

I was looking forward to today since I haven't touched my boat since last November at Elkhorn Slough. Weather reports said that it will hit a high of 70F. When I got there around 10am, it was a nippy 52F. :surprise:

Oh well. I unloaded my boat and went to find the tent.

Geigy paddles by me with Kristina following, and waving.

Did I mention "paddling through the kelp forest was a pain!?" My paddle would get tangled if I didn't angle it quite right when pulling it out of the water.

The ship ran aground on a shore of a distant uncharted desert isle.

Can you find the lost seal (center, in the water swimming)?

A few say it was a lost pup waiting for its mother. Two seals came to its rescue later.

It was great seeing the same faces and a few new ones. I was surprised to see so much wild life so close to shore. I did see a couple of dead ones, too. Overall, I had a great time!

It was around 3:30pm when Brian mentioned that there will be a huge back up on Hwy 156 heading back on Hwy 101. He was right. He suggested to continue onto Hwy 1 to take Hwy 152. As luck would have it, Hwy 1 was also backed up after heeding his suggestion about avoiding Hwy 156.

Anyways, Iong story short, I took another route aided by GPS and bypassed the traffic on Hwy 156 and 1 entirely.

Just purchased this...

Using my paddle to turn just wasn't cutting it. :nerd: Should have it ready for our next adventure.
